Goodbook Investments Limited has been in the business of the distribution of consumer electronics, digital video, and digital audio products. Since 2013 the company has worked with global brands such as Toshiba, Kramer and TOA Electronics and during this time the Company has imported and sold thousands of domestic appliances annually through large retail chains and sophisticated credit and payroll lending organisations.
While the Company has managed to record rising sales and steady gross profit margins since its inception, it became clear that sales volumes of its products are susceptible to the depressed market
conditions and erratic power supplies.
Therefore in 2017, under the trading name Kumusha Power, the Company added d.light Solar Home Systems (SHS) to its portfolio with the intention to develop a specific business model for distributing these products using its established network of Retailers and Strategic Partners. d.light is a United States SHS manufacturer primarily for emerging markets and has become a market leader in East Africa and rural India. Goodbook secured an exclusive license to distribute d.light products in Zimbabwe.
After a period of technical integration, fund-raising and product trialing, the Kumusha Power business model is now poised to significantly outgrow the existing distribution business on the back of strong need and demand for affordable and quality Solar Home Systems in the country.
Like much of Africa, Zimbabwe continues to face numerous challenges. A significant one of these is access to a reliable daily supply of energy. This has become a major challenge for the Government of Zimbabwe. The country is a net importer of its daily energy requirements, but currently suffers daily power outages. In addition, a large percentage of Zimbabweans live off-grid in rural or peri-urban areas. A situation that is common across vast areas of Africa, and which demands alternative basic light and energy sources.
Reliable energy is the lifeblood of any economy. Without it, people’s daily lives are compromised and the nation’s production and economic output is curtailed. While Zimbabweans living in urban areas are economically better placed to cope with power outages and grid issues, those in rural and peri-urban areas are less fortunate. The Company, trading as Kumusha Power aims to expand its SHS business to satisfy the rapid growth in demand within specific segments of the country.
Importers of Affordable High Quality Solar Products
Kumusha Power enjoys exclusive access within Zimbabwe to the full range of high quality, affordable and durable d.light domestic solar products and managed Solar Home Systems. All products are imported into Zimbabwe by the Company from the regional distributor and are sold into the chosen market using a combination of cash sales and selected credit sales.
Easy and Affordable Access
Credit sales range from 3 to 24 months depending on the product and eligibility of the buyer. The focus is firstly to address the civil service sector with secured payroll credit and thereafter the even larger informal rural sector where the demand for solar lighting, charging and appliances is greatest.
Our future with Solar
We envision a brighter future and quality of life for all Zimbabweans through access to reliable and affordable clean energy products.
